Sometimes it happen that a user called the helpdesk and said he isn´t receiving emails on his BlackBerry. There is a very quick and easy way to check if everything is working (so that it might be a problem on the device itself).
1.) create a new email (e.g. from your Lotus Notes client) to the user (to his personal email address)
2.) add the string "<confirm>" in the subject for example "<confirm> this is a BlackBerry test email".
3.) send the email to the user.
If everything is working you got a email similar to this one here back:
Your message:
TO:
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Sent: Tue Mar 09 10:26:49 2010
Subject: <confirm> this is a BlackBerry test email
has been delivered to the recipient's BlackBerry Handheld.
Note:
If you use <$confirm,removeondelivery> then the message you have send to the user is deleted on the mailsystem, but will stay visible on the device!
Attention:
This way is currently not documented in any RIM manual. So it might be that this function is removed/changed in the future!

If you try open a website (for example m.google.com) on your BlackBerry device you will see the following error:
HTTP Error 400: Bad Request
The server could not understand the page request, or they could not process any other reason. Load a different page.
If you press on details you see:
Connection refused
m.google.com:80
If this happen for more then one user go to your BlackBerry (BES) Server and check if the Proxy config if it is valid.
A possible problem might be: You configured the MDS to use a config.pac file. But if you try to open the config.pac via webbrowser your proxy server said:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /config.pac on this server.
In that case you need to check the proxy config and restore that file!

I´m currently working on a project where it might useful to allow limited access via BlackBerry. But because of the reason that RIM dropped the MDS Support in BlackBerry 5.0 the "old" examples in the Internet aren´t any longer working.

If you are a BlackBerry Enterprise Administrator you often manage a wide range of devices with different firmware versions so that it is very hard to rollout a software which is build for a specified OS. BUT you can create a *.alx file (in my case a sametime.alx) which can be used to install different software versions depending on the OS.
The key for this is the "_blackberryVersion" (case sensitive) you can find more infos in the BlackBerry Developer Guide but for Sametime 8.5 you can use this file here (click on read more...):
